History of UIN SAIZU

Establishment: UIN Saizu Purwokerto was founded in 1964 as a part of the Indonesian government’s effort to improve higher Islamic education in Indonesia. Originally named IAIN Purwokerto, it focused on Islamic studies and education.

Transformation: Over the years, the institution expanded its academic offerings and infrastructure. In 2017, it was officially transformed from STAIN (Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam) to IAIN (Institut Agama Islam Negeri). Later, it was transformed into UIN (Universitas Islam Negeri) in 2021 by the decree of the President of Indonesia (Number 41, 2021), reflecting its broadened scope and mission.

Naming: This public Islamic university was named after Prof. K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri, a prominent Islamic scholar and Minister of Religious Affairs Indonesia, to honor his contributions to Islamic education and culture in Indonesia.

Growth: UIN Saizu Purwokerto has grown significantly, now offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. It integrates Islamic values with social humanities and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) in the modern education context.
